Cardboard Gold Card Saver 1 & Penny Sleeves
PSA recommends using Cardboard Gold semi-rigid holders (like Card Saver 1) and penny sleeves because they provide cards with secure, non-abrasive protection that is easy for graders to remove and handle without risking damage. Semi-rigid holders fit snug enough to prevent cards from shifting, but aren’t so rigid or tight that removing the card for grading could cause corner or edge wear.Cardboard Gold semi-rigids in particular are recommended because they meet PSA's sizing standards and quality expectations, and are widely used in the hobby, ensuring a consistent submission experience and minimal risk of card rejection or mishandling during grading. Other brands (like Ultra Pro) make similar holders, but Cardboard Gold is often cited by PSA in submission instructions for its reliability.
Centering Tool Instructions
Your overall centering grade is determined by the most off-center side of the card. Always use the worst measurement. A printed copy of these instructions and ratios will be included in your package for easier reference. Here is how to use the card centering tool best:
- Put the card in a penny sleeve and semi-rigid card holder.
- Slide the card under the clear window and center it as accurately as possible.
- Locate the black dotted line numbers that align with the edge of the printed picture. If it falls between numbers, estimate.
- Use those numbers to find the centering score on the score chart (available in the images or below).
- Use that score to help decide if the card is worth submitting to a grading company (PSA, BGS, SGC, etc.).
